Shipping / Recieving Clerk

Department: Receiving 6040
Location: Saint Joseph, MI

This hybrid facilities and shipping/receiving position is responsible for coordinating the flow of materials and products in and out of the facility. This role ensures accurate and timely handling of incoming shipments, proper inspection and documentation of materials, and preparation of outgoing goods in accordance with customer and carrier requirements. The position also has the responsibility of scheduling contractors for facilities maintenance and repair, as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Operates lift trucks or hand trucks to move materials to designated departments or areas.
  • Keeps the facility shop area clean and orderly in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Performs general facilities duties, including organizing shop supplies, cleaning break and office areas, emptying trash, and cleaning shop vehicles.
  • Maintains the exterior area immediately surrounding the shop to promote a positive company image.
  • Unpacks, inspects, and routes incoming shipments; rejects damaged items, records shortages, and communicates with shippers to resolve issues.
  • Receives and processes defective parts returned for replacement or credit.
  • Maintains inventory of shipping and facility supplies, including breakroom items (e.g., plates, towels, utensils, coffee, water).
  • Uses computer systems to track shipments, inventory, and other logistics-related data.
  • Prepares outgoing shipments, ensuring proper packaging and scheduling with the carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order.
  • Daily, monthly, quarterly, or yearly logging of safety inspections for company equipment
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and ensures equipment is kept in safe working condition.
  • Makes pick-ups and deliveries between company properties using a company vehicle, as needed.
  • Assists with setup and teardown for company events such as luncheons, VIP visits, and internal programs.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, first shift position. Average hours worked per week may vary depending on our workload.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, with very little out-of-the-area and/or overnight travel expected.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a high school education and minimum of 5 years of factory-related experience in shipping and receiving.
  • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Valid Chauffer’s License or CDL-B desired
  • Licensed forklift truck operator.
